Gaza is Not a Property For Sale

Senior Hamas official Izzat Al-Risheq condemned Donald Trump’s remarks about buying and owning Gaza, stating that Gaza is not a property to be bought or sold; it is an inseparable part of our occupied Palestinian land. Al-Risheq confirmed that Palestinians are clinging to their land and have rejected all plans aimed at ethnically cleansing them.

Additionally, he said Gaza belongs to its people, and they will only leave it to return to their cities and villages occupied in 1948.

The Palestinian Hamas group on Monday called the Trump statements as “absurd” and a reflection of “profound ignorance” about Palestine and the region.

“We denounce Trump’s remarks about buying and owning Gaza. These statements are absurd.” Izzat al-Rishq, a member of Hamas’ political bureau, said in a statement.

He added such comments “demonstrate a profound ignorance of Palestine and the region.”

“Gaza is not a piece of real estate to be bought and sold, it is an inseparable part of our occupied Palestinian land,” al-Rishq stressed.

He warned that treating the Palestinian cause with a “real estate dealer’s mindset” is doomed to fail, stressing that “the Palestinian people will thwart all plans of displacement and forced relocation.”

On Sunday, Trump said he is committed to buying Gaza and letting other nations develop parts of it.

“I’m committed to buying and owning Gaza,” Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One en route to New Orleans, Louisiana.

He also reiterated that the Palestinian enclave is a demolition site and uninhabitable.

On Feb. 4, Trump said Washington would “take over” Gaza and resettle Palestinians elsewhere under an extraordinary redevelopment plan that he claimed could turn the enclave into “the Riviera of the Middle East.”

His proposal was met with widespread condemnation from the Palestinians, Arab countries, and many other nations across the world, including Canada, France, Germany, and the UK according to Anadolu.

A Destroyed Dream House

Jihad Al-Arini, a Palestinian man, had long struggled to make ends meet. For more than seven years, he worked as a sanitation worker for a municipality in Gaza, enduring hardship to provide for his family.

Sacrificing basic necessities, he worked tirelessly to save enough money to buy a home for his children.

In early October 2023, he fulfilled his dream and purchased an apartment, paying $12,000 upfront with plans to pay the remainder in installments. However, his joy was short-lived.

Just one week after moving into his new home, on October 7, 2023, the war broke out. The Israeli aggression destroyed Jihad’s apartment, along with all the buildings surrounding it.

Now, standing amidst the rubble, he surveys the remnants of his home.

Devastated, Jihad is searching for a new shelter for his children, hoping to set up a tent near his family’s home in Gaza, as he faces yet another challenge in his fight to provide a stable life for his loved ones.

Would Canada Become America’s 51st State?

US President Donald Trump confirmed Sunday that he is serious about his repeated remarks that Canada should become his country’s 51st state.

In an interview with Fox News, he was asked whether Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was correct in saying the idea was “a real thing.”

“Yes, it is,” Trump responded.

He argued that Canada “would be much better off” as part of the US and criticized the $200 billion the US spends annually on its neighbor to the north.

He claimed this amount, which his administration previously linked to defense costs and trade deficits, was effectively a “subsidy” to Canada.

“I’m not gonna let that happen,” Trump said regarding the payments, adding: “Now, if they’re the 51st state, I don’t mind doing it.”

Trump has made similar remarks in recent months, referring to Trudeau as a “governor” rather than a prime minister.

While some have dismissed the comments as rhetoric, Trudeau reportedly told business leaders Friday to take Trump’s statements seriously according to Anadolu.

Israel Forces Out 20,000 Jenin Residents

Israel has forcibly displaced more than 20,000 Palestinians from the Jenin refugee camp in the northern West Bank, a Palestinian official said on Sunday.

“The (Israeli) occupation has entirely destroyed the Jenin refugee camp and forcibly displaced over 20,000 residents, leaving behind their homes, documents, and personal belongings,” Jenin Deputy Governor Mansour al-Saadi told the Voice of Palestine radio.

The displaced residents are expected to seek shelter in other cities across the West Bank, as destruction caused by the Israeli assault makes their return impossible.

The Israeli attacks and destruction are “a conspiracy against the refugee issue, aimed at erasing it entirely,” Saadi said.

The Palestinian official characterized the Israeli offensive on Jenin city and its refugee camp as “collective punishment” targeting nearly 400,000 residents of the city.

He highlighted the severe economic losses caused by the ongoing assault as well as the disruption of the education system.

He appealed to international human rights and legal organizations to “enter the camp and document the extent of the Israeli crime given the strong likelihood that the bodies of dead and injured individuals remain buried under the rubble of destroyed homes.”

The Israeli escalation follows a broader Israeli military offensive that began on Jan. 21 in Jenin and its refugee camp, as well as surrounding towns, killing at least 25 people, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry.

The army expanded its assault into Tulkarem on Jan. 27, killing five more people. On Feb. 2, another assault was launched in the town of Tammun and the Far’a refugee camp in the Tubas city.

The escalation follows a ceasefire and prisoner exchange deal in Gaza on Jan. 19, after more than 15 months of Israel bombardment, which has killed nearly 48,200 Palestinians and devastated the enclave.

Since the war began on Oct. 7, 2023, Israeli forces and settlers have killed at least 906 Palestinians across the occupied West Bank, according to the Health Ministry.

Trump Insists on ‘Buying’ Gaza Despite Opposition

US President Donald Trump has reiterated his commitment to controlling and buying Gaza, dismissing objections from its native Palestinian inhabitants. In a recent statement, Trump declared his commitment to buying Gaza, sparking controversy by framing the Palestinian cause as a real estate issue.

Trump also proposed potentially reallocating parts of Gaza to other countries in the Middle East. “We could give parts of Gaza to neighboring countries,” he added, hinting at fulfilling Israel’s expansionist ambitions.

Speaking to journalists, Trump had proposed transforming Gaza into the “Riviera of the Middle East”. He suggested inviting “the world’s people” to move there while expelling over 2 million native Palestinians. His remarks echo earlier statements by his son-in-law and former aide, Jared Kushner, who described Gaza’s waterfront as valuable real estate.

Last year, Kushner said Israel should remove Gaza’s population while “cleaning up” the area. In an interview with Harvard’s Middle East Initiative, he proposed bulldozing parts of the Negev Desert to relocate Palestinians there. He also suggested that, “with the right diplomacy,” Israel could push Palestinians out through the Rafah crossing into Egypt.

Trump’s plan has sparked outrage, with Palestinians rejecting any forced displacement. Critics see it as a continuation of Israeli policies aimed at erasing Palestinian presence from the land according to the Quds News Network.
