Israel’s Mass Cyber Attack on Lebanon Will Fail – Mustapha Barghouti

Secretary-General of the Palestinian National Initiative (PNI) Dr. Mustafa Barghouti said the criminal Israeli attack on Lebanon, which resulted in the martyrdom of about 10 citizens and the injury of thousands of others, is a terrorist act and an attack on innocent civilians before fighters.

He said it represents the implementation of the conspiracy of the Prime Minister of the Zionist occupation Benjamin Netanyahu and his fascist government. He added it aims to ignite a comprehensive war on Lebanon and drag the region into a regional war and prevent reaching an agreement to stop the war of extermination on the Gaza Strip.

Barghouti added to Jordan24 Netanyahu would not have dared to commit all these crimes without the absolute American support and Western silence on the war crimes he is committing.

The head of the PNI added Netanyahu will fail in the face of the steadfastness and resistance of the peoples of the region, especially the Lebanese and Palestinian peoples, and his plans will be shattered and destroyed as the conspiracies of the aggressors who preceded him were shattered.

Barghouti criticized the shameful Arab and international silence on the crimes committed by the occupation in Gaza, the West Bank and Lebanon, which will lead to the outbreak of a regional war and ignite the entire region if it continues.

Barghouti called on free countries to pressure the International Criminal Court to investigate the crimes committed by the occupation, the latest of which was yesterday, especially since it affected thousands of Lebanese citizens and is considered a blatant attack on the sovereignty of the Lebanese state.

UN Envoy Condemns Pager Explosions in Lebanon

Lebanese Ambassador Hadi Hachem sharply criticized Israel, Tuesday, for its ongoing military actions against his country in the wake of multiple explosions of pager devices that killed at least nine people and wounded many others, accusing it of violating international law and escalating regional tensions.

Speaking at an emergency session of the UN General Assembly on the legal consequences of Israel’s activities in occupied Palestinian territories, Hachem stressed that Lebanon’s sovereignty has been under attack since Oct. 8, 2023.

“The attacks against southern Lebanon have continued by Israel defying international law and resolutions, including international humanitarian law and the most fundamental humanitarian laws. This Israeli escalation on our territory is being accompanied by a hardening of rhetoric,” he said.

Citing the explosions of wireless communication devices across Lebanon on Tuesday, Hachem described it as an “aggression which rises to a war crime” and warned that it would exacerbate the conflict.

Earlier, at least nine people, including a child, were killed in a mass explosion of the pager devices in areas across Lebanon, according to Lebanese Health Minister Firas Al-Abiad.

He added that around 2,750 other people were also injured, including 200 in critical condition.

Pagers, often used by civilians and health care workers for communication, are small, battery-powered wireless devices that receive text messages, audio and visual signals.

Hachem warned that “with ongoing threats against Lebanon and its people” the Middle East “will become the eye of the cyclone.”

Iran condemns attack on Lebanon

Iran’s permanent representative to the UN, Amir Saeid Iravani, said at the UN General Assembly session that Israel’s “aggression and act of terrorism” targeting civilians in Lebanon has resulted in thousands of injuries, including to Iran’s ambassador to Lebanon.

“We extend our sincere condolences to the families of the victims and the government of Lebanon and strongly condemn this act of sabotage and terrorism by the rogue regime of Israel,” Iravani said.

“The Israeli regime must be held accountable for such aggression and heinous crime,” he added.

Iran’s Permanent Mission to the UN issued a statement to Anadolu regarding the injury of Iran’s Ambassador Lebanon, Mojtaba Emani, following the explosion of communication devices in Lebanon according to Anadolu, the Turkish news agency

The statement said Emani is receiving treatment and is in stable condition.

The mass explosion of pagers came amid an exchange of cross-border attacks between Hezbollah and Israel against the backdrop of a brutal Israeli offensive on the Gaza Strip which has killed more than 41,200 people, mostly women and children, following a cross-border attack on Israel by the Palestinian group Hamas on Oct. 7 last year.

Meanwhile, Hamas stated the occupation army committed a new massacre “by carrying out a brutal and intensive shelling that included a residential area crowded with residents east of the Al-Bureij camp, which led to the destruction of a number of homes over the heads of their residents and the deaths and injuries of dozens.”

The Gaza Ministry of Health also announced that the occupation forces committed, in the past 24 hours, three massacres in the enclave, of which 26 martyrs and 84 wounded arrived at hospitals, bringing the number of victims, since the beginning of the Israeli war on Gaza to 41,252 martyrs and 95,497 wounded.

In turn, Al Jazeera reported the martyrdom of journalist Mohammed Abu Shawqa in a bombing that targeted his home in Al-Bureij camp, and the recovery of the body of a martyr from the Wadi Gaza area, north of Al-Nuseirat camp, also in the central Strip.

Hamas confirmed “these heinous and repeated crimes show that the Israeli army  insist on its extermination war and the direct and deliberate targeting of defenseless civilians, amidst reprehensible global silence and a state of complete paralysis of the international system.”

It stressed “these ongoing massacres against the people of Gaza, which are being committed with the complicity and support of the US administration and western capitals, will not weaken the resolve and steadfastness of our Palestinian people or succeed in subduing their resistance, or bring the fascist Zionist clique closer to achieving the goals of its brutal aggression.”

With significant US support, Israel has been waging a devastating war on Gaza since October 7, 2023, which has left more than 136,000 martyrs and wounded, most of them children and women, and more than 10,000 missing, amid massive destruction and deadly famine.

In disregard of the international community, Israel continues this war, ignoring the UN Security Council resolution to stop it immediately, and the orders of the International Court of Justice to take measures to prevent acts of genocide and improve the catastrophic humanitarian situation in Gaza.
