Netanyahu is Leading Israel Into The Abyss – Ehud Olmert

Ehud Olmert, former Israeli Prime Minister confirmed that Benjamin Netanyahu does not want to recover the Israeli prisoners in the Gaza Strip, and that the ceasefire negotiations may collapse. He warned the current Israeli prime minister is leading Israel to the abyss and a comprehensive war in the Middle East.

In a recent Haaretz article Olmert added, the continuation of the war in the Gaza Strip and its expansion in the north with Hezbollah will increase the chances of a comprehensive regional war with other parties like the Yemeni armed forces, and other groups supported by Iran in Syria and Iraq joining in.

He said such a scenario would pose a real threat to Israel, and a step that will lead to the deaths of many soldiers and settlers. He noted this will cause serious damage to the physical infrastructure inside Israel and to a real deterioration in its international standing.

He pointed out Netanyahu must choose between abandoning his declared goal of “absolute victory” and continuing the war and expanding it into a comprehensive confrontation on multiple fronts without a reasonable timetable to end it. He added that Israel is approaching a comprehensive war in great strides, and this is what Netanyahu, Itamar Ben-Gvir and Bezalel Smotrich want.

Olmert called on Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant, Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi, Shin Bet chief Ronen Bar, and Mossad chief David Barnea to jointly announce their resignations, as soon as Netanyahu thwarts negotiations to reach a ceasefire agreement in Gaza in the coming days.

In a related context, the Israeli newspaper Haaretz said in its editorial that the prisoners that are being held in Gaza, now in their 11-month of captivity have “begun to slowly rot in Hamas tunnels, and have become secondary figures for Netanyahu.”

The newspaper pointed out that Netanyahu sometimes says that he is ready to negotiate, and other times he lengthens the Israeli delegation’s rope, and announces that he will be flexible, but suddenly he adds new conditions, revealing that he says in closed political salons that there is no ceasefire deal, and in the meantime more prisoners are dying according to the Quds News Network.

Israel Can’t Win The War

Despite 11 months of fighting in the Gaza Strip, the Israeli army is still trying to alter the military equation with the Palestinian resistance groups whom its fighting.

Gaza is proving a tough battle for Israeli officers who are using multiple tactics and strategies to show they are in command. In desperate moves, the Israeli army is bombing shelters and homes aimed at forcing the Palestinian people to leave Gaza according to military expert retired Major-General Mamoun Abu Nawar.

Civilians have always been a soft target in the war.  He noted that available statistics show since the beginning of the Israeli onslaught  on 7 October 2003, 30,000 Palestinians have left for Egypt in one way or another and the Israeli authorities will not allow these people to return.

Abu Nawar added to Jo24  throughout war the Israeli army’s main goal has been to force people to leave the Strip through the bombardment of their homes while at the same time encouraging their voluntary displacement.

This is because it knows full well it will not be able to win the war and defeat the resistance – having already fought four wars in Gaza and has not been able to destroy Hamas and the Palestinian resistance movenents and/or has not been able to reduce their capabilities.

Palestinian fighters continue to target Israeli tanks, snipe soldiers, ambushes  and booby-trap destroyed houses which Israeli soldiers seek to use for their military operations.

But the Israeli army keeps trying news ways to gain the strategic edge. Abu Mawar said today the Israeli army has switched to a new assassination strategy which is the killing of Hamas and Hezbollah leaders – Ismail Hanyah in Iran and Foad Shukr in Beirut – but this doesn’t seem to be working and has not been able to end the presence of Hamas either.

On the Gaza battlefield, the Israeli army leaders know they have fallen into a quagmire as their soldiers freely admit in letters they write to their superiors that victory is not within reach as claimed by extremist Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Kill and displace

But here lies the problem as Netanyahu and other extremists in the government reject a truce with the Palestinians which is what the army want but instead are pushing for their original goal of killing as many Palestinians as possible and displace whatever they can despite their failure to achieve the declared goals of the war.

Abu Nawar explained that the absence of a plan for the so-called day after the war created leeway for extremists especially after they were provided with the latest types of American weapons to implement its plan of more massacres, displacement and genocide.

The killing rate in Gaza has reached 10 Palestinians for every Israeli soldier after the use of American smart and dumb bombs which Israel has been provided with.

But he says that on the ground, the Israeli army is having a hard time and the resistance still has the ability to deter, engage, set up ambushes and snipe at officers and soldiers, stressing regular armies like the Israeli fear guerrilla warfare due to its dangers and high rate of losses, which is what is happening now in Gaza and giving the resistance movement the maneuverability to keep fighting.

Expert: Iran to Launch Strike on Israel Soon

Military expert Dr Nidal Abu Zeid said the resistance is provening it still has the ability to continue confronting the Israel occupation forces after 301 days. As evidence of that it launched a rockets barrage towards the Jewish settlements sorrounding Gaza from the southern region.

He added this is an area witnessing one of the largest military operations these days.

Abu Zeid added to Jo24 Israeli forces introduced a new brigade to fight in Gaza – so-called the Jerusalem Brigade affiliated to the Central Military Region – and not from the brigades of the Southern Military Region responsible for operations in Gaza.

Its confirms the extent of the attrition affecting the Israeli combat units from the Palestinian resistance groups in Gaza, the military expert said.

Abu Zeid pointed out the Israeli occupation army withdrew its Seventh Brigade in east of Khan Yunis recently due to the heavy losses they incurred amongst their ranks and has instead deployed the Jerusalem Brigade.

The continuing media statements about Hezbollah and Iran’s response to the assassination of martyrs Ismail Haniyeh and Fouad Shukr confirms that its coming military action on Israel will not be delayed, he said.

Waiting for the hit

This is especially in light of the repositioning of the Hezbollah units in southern Lebanon, withdrawal of Iranian militias from Deir Ezzor, Syria and the fact that most airlines stopped their flights to Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv.

Abu Zeid explained the clip circulating about the explosion in the building where Ismail Haniyeh was in Tehran is not true. He noted this clip is an old one, published on the occupation army’s website targeting a house in Attara, north Ramallah.

He added the coincidence of its publication now with the New York Times item comes within Israel’s attempt to show the explosion was caused by a device placed inside the building where Haniyeh was staying.

Abu Zeid this is being stressed to shatter the image of Iranian intelligence and show its been compromised. He added however, all indications show the area targeted was by an advanced missile launched from outside Iran, specifically from a base in Azerbaijan.

US Gave “Green Light” in Haniyah’s Assassination – Experts Say

Politicians agreed the assassination of Ismail Haniyah, chief of the Hamas political bureau by Israel would not have been carried out without the American green light and participation of Washington in the operation.

They added to the Jo24 website the surgical operation carried out, Wednesday, sends a clear message to Tehran that there is nothing protected inside Iranian territory and that Israel is able to reach the targets it wants in the country easily.

The politician analysts point out the assassination reflects the dilemma faced by Israel in its 10-month war on Gaza and the fact its unable to achieve goals there. As a result,  the  Zionist enemy is now resorting to assassinating the leaders in the region as a way to quell the resistance.

Reshuffling the cards

Veteran Jordanian politician Salem Al-Falahat said the latest assassination is an attempt by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to expand the scope of the war and attempt to shuffle the cards by bringing Iran into the battle field to get rid of all the forces opposing the Israeli occupation in Gaza and the Palestinian territories.

Al-Falahat added that the operation reflects Israel’s disdain to Arab countries.

He confirmed however, the blood of the martyrs will increase the resistance’s determination to complete the liberation of the land while aknowledging the current negotiations are futille and leading to nowhere.

He stressed the USA is a major partner with Israel in the assassination and the main guide in the last operation.

The occupation’s failure

Political activist and academic Dr. Labib Qamhawi said the assassination reflects the failure of the Israeli military to achieve its announced goals for the war and resulting in its latest trend to assassinate its leaders and influence the masses to turn against them.

Qamhawi added to Jordan 24 that there is a major conspiracy in the Haniyeh assassination as the missile was directed towards his bedroom, which means that there was electronic guidance that hit the target directly.

He concluded that because Israel is failing on the military front in Gaza and its northern areas, it looked for an alternative solution which is to assassinate. But this would not have take place without the knowledge of the Americans as refuted by US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken.

Security breach in Iran

Strategic analyst Dr. Munther Al-Hiwarat said this precise and focused operation on Haniyeh, and the day before him, on Hezbollah’s military leader Fouad Shukr, does not take place without the knowledge and assistance of the USA. He added that the latest operation is indeed considered a security and strategic breach for Iran and an expression of the lack of its security as a deterrent force.

In his view Israel intended to go for a major war, but it was pressure from the United States that forced it to back down and adopt “a minor war” stand and the assassinations of such leaders.
