Yemeni Tel Aviv Ballistic Shocks Israeli Psychology

Dr Marwan Asmar

The Israeli government and army are in a shocked mood, Sunday morning, over the ballistic missile, all the way from Yemen – that landed in the east of Tel Aviv and just six kilometers from Ben Gurion Airport.

The defense missiles, some the best in the Israeli military, including the Iron Dome, the Arrow and David’s Sling, saw the route of the Hatem 2 ballistic missile but failed to intercept it as it crashed in the surrounding forest areas of Tel Aviv causing mass fires with its shrapnels reaching the airport and a train station on the outskirts of Modi’in in central Israel with reports of damage according to the Israeli Haaretz.

Social media video clips show a train was hit on a rail line with smoke billowing out of it with one suggesting it was a  “direct hit to Israeli infrastructure” and that “Israel on fire.”

Shock psychology

The incoming surface-to-surface missile created havoc in the psychology of Israelis, most of whom were still asleep.

As they heard the sirens warnings triggered in all areas of the so-called Greater Tel Aviv, all Israelis – reported to be 2,365,000 by the Hadshot Bazman website – tried to get to the underground shelters as quickly as possible with nine people being injured as a result of the “stampede-like” situation and “crush” that happened for sirens started bellowing at 6 pm in the morning.

Israeli security expert Yossi Melman said the single Yemeni missile breached the entire layered defense system of Israel as the Yemen missile was able to bypass 22 defense posts and whose counter-missiles were unable to shoot the single ballistic down, and turning Israel’s top-dollars defense systems into a laughing stock.

Israeli media reports say the military has already opened an investigation into the missile but they point also this is the third Yemeni success whose ballistic missiles targeted Tel Aviv, Eilat and now the Ben Gurion Airport.

The Houthis are saying nothing can stop us now for continually targeting Israel until the war on Gaza is stopped.

The Yemenis are saying this is just the beginning.

The Yemeni Defense Minister and Chief of General Staff in Sanaa issued, Saturday, a stern warning to the “enemies of the nation and the evil trio of America, Britain, and Israel,” stating what is coming will be “harsher and more severe than anything they have faced in the past,” as reported in the almayadeen website.

Israeli Army Radio reported “the ballistic missile launched from Yemen traveled a distance of approximately 2,000 kilometers (1,243 miles), taking around 15 minutes of flight time according to Anadolu. Yet it was not detected in time. The Israeli army says it is investigating why.

But this is surely to be a psychological blow to the Israeli military which is already under intense pressure from Hezbollah trajectories from the north to stop the war that Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu refuses to.

Israelis Hurl Abuse at Extremist Ben Gvir on Beach

Israeli beachgoers hurled abuse and shouted at Israel’s Minister of National Security Itamar Ben Gvir as he visited a Tel Aviv beach with his family, Friday. They demanded that he leaves the beach at once.

One man kept shouting at the extremist prime minister in the Netanyahu government in front of the camera as he walked with his family and surrounded by bodyguards.

The incident is trending on the social media. The man kept shouting at Ben Gvir. “killer….murderer…the kidnapped are killed in Gaza! the kidnapped are killed in Gaza! Murderer. A killer and a trip to the sea. On the beach….

…don’t come here…Killer of childhood! Kidnapping killer. You are a murderer. Killer. The Abductees in Gaza are dead. Dead because of you! They die because you kill them! You are a killer. How dare you walk on the beach…” the man kept telling Gvir who appeared all smiles and tried to show that everything was normal.

A 27-year-old threw wet sand at Ben Gvir and run into the sea with the body guards pounded on her and arrested her where she spent one night in jail.

He later wrote “I arrived today for a few hours with my family at the beach in Tel Aviv and was warmly received by the beachgoers. A small group of left-wing protesters on the beach started shouting at me and calling for me to leave. It’s their right, this is freedom of speech, but the beach doesn’t belong to their father.”

Together with Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, he insists that the war on Gaza – now in its 11th month – continues regardless of the release of the hostages and that if Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stops the slaughter they will leave his government and mean its downfall.

Hezbollah Fires 1,307 Rockets Into Israel in August

The Israeli military stated, Thursday, it detected 1,307 rockets and drones launched against from Lebanon in August alone.

This is the largest salvo of missiles fired against Israel from the Hezbollah group since the start of this year.

In a statement, the Shin Bet domestic security service said around 42 rockets and drones were fired daily against Israel from Lebanon last month according to an Anadolu report.

According to the statement, 1,091 rockets were launched by Hezbollah from Lebanon in July, 855 in June, 1,000 in May, 744 in April, 746 in March, 534 in February, and 334 in January.

As for the Gaza Strip, the Shin Bet said 116 rockets were fired from the Palestinian enclave in August, down from 216 in July, 205 in June, and 452 in May according to the Turkish news agency.

Tensions spiked along Lebanon’s border with Israel amid cross-border attacks between Hezbollah and Israeli forces as Tel Aviv pressed ahead with its brutal onslaught on the Gaza Strip, which has killed over 40,800 people since last 7 October 2023 following an attack by the Palestinian resistance group Hamas into Israel in which around 1200 people were killed.

Israelis Face Deadly Resistance Battles After 11 Months

Military expert Major-General Fayez Al-Duwairi said that the Israeli army does not convey the true picture of what it is doing in the Gaza Strip. He added that the occupation army talks about a third phase of military operations that is supposed to be a stage of raids while it is continuing to kill civilians in many ways.

He added – in a military analysis on Al Jazeera – the suffering inflicted by the occupation on civilians in the Strip is not reflected on the Palestinian resistance, which created a new concept of asymmetrical warfare, dominated by the “tunnels war” where resistance fighters continue to  emerge from in specific times to carry out specific and deadly military missions.

Al-Duwairi pointed out the Palestinian resistance groups dominated by Hamas, Islamic Jihad and others are still, after about a year of war, capable of fighting and have a stockpile of weapons, fighters and fighters that are being recruited by the day according to Jo24. The war on Gaza was launched soon after 7 October, 2023.

He said Hamas did not take part in the last two wars – 2021 and 2022 – started by Israel on the Gaza Strip, which helped it provide a stockpile of weapons for this present war that is lasting longer than necessary because the world forgot about the atrocities of Gaza as he points out.

The military expert reiterated that the resistance, which continues to bomb the settlements and bases around the Gaza Strip and southern Tel Aviv, confirms its ability to continue the war for longer than anybody has expected.

At the same time it is finding it more difficult for the resistance groups to fight from “zero distances” because of the geographical alterations of Gaza. The Israeli army are now taking up positions far from residential areas with the exception of Tel Sultan, which has been witnessing violent battles for more than three months, he concluded.

Israeli Army Loses Deterrence, Decisiveness – Expert

Military expert Dr Nidal Abu Zeid said the success of the Qassam Brigades in launching an M90 missile towards Tel Aviv after 324 days of war and coinciding with Hezbollah’s bombing of the Glilot intelligence base, confirms the Israeli occupation is now missing the two most prominent features of the Israeli combat doctrine: Deterrence and decisiveness.

Abu Zeid added to Jordan24 that the resistance in Gaza has begun to impose the form of the combat equation, raise and lower the intensity of the fighting as it wishes and impose time and place on the enemy.

He said this means its is succeeding in stripping the occupation of its initiative element.

The strategic expert explained the resistance is still focusing on what is termed as the geographical triangle extending from Tel al-Hawa to Khan Yunis and Yula to Tel al-Sultan in Rafah, and is confining the Israeli military operations to this area.

This, he says has greatly exhausted the occupation forces, especially in light of the combat methods followed by the Palestinian resistance groups.

In this situation, Abu Zeid pointed out this type of fighting means the Israeli army can do two things:

The first is to accept the decision at the political level to continue fighting and this will inevitably leads to the collapse of their offensive posture in Gaza as a result of their losses and the shattering of their military units organizational structure, including its 162nd Armored Division and the 98th Paratroopers Division, now fighting for 224 days nonstop. The second is for the Israeli army to stop fighting and withdraw from the Gaza Strip under the weight of losses.
