First Act of News Israeli Army Chief: Sack Daniel Hagari

Israeli Army Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir has decided to dismiss military spokesperson Daniel Hagari, who later managed to ensure his “forced” retirement from the service, Israel’s public broadcaster reported on Friday.

“The Chief of Staff decided to dismiss the spokesperson of the Israeli army, Daniel Hagari, from his position,” KAN reported.

However, it added that “the army spokesperson agreed with Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir that he would step down from his position in the coming weeks and retire from the Israeli army.”

The decision comes just two days after Zamir assumed his position, replacing former Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi, who led Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza for over 15 months before resigning.

The broadcaster noted that Hagari lost the confidence of Defense Minister Israel Katz and is in disagreement with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office, but no further information was provided.

Tensions between the Israeli army and Defense Minister Katz have been escalating since January, particularly after Katz instructed Halevi to fully cooperate with an investigation by the state comptroller into the events of Oct. 7, 2023 according to Anadolu.

In a rare public response, the Israeli military said in a statement that “such matters should be resolved through direct dialogue between the defense minister and the chief of staff, not through the media.”

More than 48,400 Palestinians have been killed, mostly women and children, and more than 111,800 have been injured in a brutal Israeli onslaught on Gaza since October 2023. The assault, which left the enclave in ruins, was paused under a ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement that took hold on Jan. 19.

The International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants in November for Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.

Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.

Hagari, Netanyahu Clash Over Hamas Resurfaces

Its being put this way: “A new clash is developing between Netanyahu and Hagari” as one blogger put it.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is angered by spokesman of the Israeli army Daniel Hagari who told the American ABC News channel that Israel would still be fighting Hamas five years from now.

Later Israel’s Channel 14 reported that Netanyahu strongly criticized Hagari in a closed meet of the Israeli government.

The clash between the two is trending on social media. Another blogger put it this way saying Hagari has “admitted to the American media that his army was unable to eliminate Hamas no matter how long lasted.

His comments are being widely distributed. Hagari told ABC’s Mike Gutman: “Will you and me be talking five years from now about Hamas as a terror organization in Gaza? The answer is yes.”

Israel Hayom said Hagari presented a candid assessment and it contrasts sharply with the “optimistic rhetoric” of Netanyahu “who continues to promise a swift defeat of Hamas.” The paper said Hagari’s comments suggest “a more complex and challenging road ahead for the Israeli forces in Gaza.”

The widening rift between Hagari and Netanyahu is increasing especially because the comments of the Rear Admiral about his earlier comments last month about the impossible task of destroying Hamas, quoted as saying:

This business of destroying Hamas, making Hamas disappear – it’s simply throwing sand in the eyes of the public,” he said. “Hamas is an idea, Hamas is a party. It’s rooted in the hearts of the people – whoever thinks we can eliminate Hamas is wrong.”

‘You Can’t Beat Hamas’ Israeli Army Spokesman Says

In what is seen as a slap in the face for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Israeli army spokesman speaks out and out of turn! “You can’t beat Hamas,” he blurts out because of so many reasons.

Promises to destroy Palestinian resistance group Hamas are “misleading,” Daniel Hagari said Wednesday as reported in Anadolu.

He said the goal of the “total destruction of Hamas” is like “throwing sand in the public’s eyes, a quote which is trending all over the social media.

His comments come as a swipe against the country’s current political leadership who are determined to eradicate Hamas despite all odds and are continuing a genocidal war against the civilians of Gaza to attempt to do it.

“Anyone promising to eradicate Hamas is misleading the public,” Hagari told the broadcaster Channel 13 as reported in the Turkish news agency.

In a frank tone, he said  “Hamas is an idea. Those who think it can be made to disappear are wrong,” he said after having been daily reporting on the Israeli war on Gaza for the last eight months.

Hagari stressed if the government “doesn’t find an alternative — it (Hamas) will remain” in Gaza.

From the start of the war on Gaza after 7 October Netanyahu has reiterated that Israel’s key objective is to destroy Hamas and has not listened to anyone else who expressed scepticism about meeting this goal and which they say is not feasible.

Meanwhile Israeli society is breaking to pieces. The 120 or so hostages have not been released, the Israeli army is in a bad situation because of the real number of deaths, injured and those in need of psychological help, the economy is in tatters and many Israelis are leaving the country.

Hagari discussed the army’s announcement on June 8 about the release of four captives in a military operation in the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza. “It is not possible to release all hostages through military operations,” he acknowledged as reported by Anadolu.

More that 37,000 has been killed in Gaza through the Israeli bombings with over 85,000 being injured.
