Military Angle: Ending Hamas After 1 Year Wrong

Military expert Maj-Gen Fayez Al-Duwairi said the Israeli army’s talk about needing another year to eliminate the capabilities of Hamas is inaccurate.

He pointed out there is a need to differentiate between the political entity of the Islamic Resistance Movement and its military wing represented by the Al-Qassam Brigades.

Al-Duwairi added on Al Jazeera when the occupation army speaks, it means the military wing of Hamas, stressing that even these brigades cannot be eliminated in the said period.

The military expert described the occupation army’s talk is at best “optimistic.” He pointed to previous Israeli military reports that stated it would take years to achieve this goal.

He emphasized eliminating Al-Qassam will not be an easy task  because it has already succeeded in rebuilding its forces and rotating its power in the last months through the Israeli missiles that were fired on Gaza but didn’t explode, the number of which equal 10 percent and estimated at about 9 tons so far according to Al-Duwairi.

He concluded stopping the firing of missiles from the Gaza Strip towards Israeli cities “will remain out of reach even if the occupation army says otherwise.”

Regarding the occupation army’s talk that the Black Hawk helicopter crashed (reported Wednesday) in Rafah due to technical and/or human malfunction, Al-Duwairi said this does not rule out the military factor.

This is because it crashed at night while transporting a wounded person from a combat zone. He said that the helicopter may have been exposed to gunfire from the resistance, which forced the pilot to act in a way that brought down the plane even if it was not hit.

Israeli Soldiers Beg to Exit The Gaza Quagmire

Major-General Fayez Al-Duwairi said the letter of dozens of reserve officers in the Israeli occupation army to their Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi, is a sobering reality of what these soldiers are going through in the hard fields of Gaza.

The strategic expert explained – in his Gaza military analysis – the one fighting in battle is the most honest because he is directly on the ground, noting the words of Israeli politicians cannot be taken seriously because they are seeking to exploit the war for their political goals.

He said the concept of victory in asymmetric warfare is completely different from that of the traditional one “if the weak party can continue fighting and survive, it is victorious, while the strong party is considered a loser if it does not win.”

Zero distance

The Al-Qassam Brigades – the Hamas military wing – and the rest of the factions are still fighting. Videos of the resistance in various combat zones, prove that the occupation army remains fearful of fighting from zero distance he said in his daily analysis on Al Jazeera.

Al-Duwairi stressed the army has suffered great losses in the strategic context that will require years to compensate for. In this war it has lost its superiority, has not be able to win this “conservative war”, undermined its deterrence and failed in its ability to work on the home front.

The expert added the statements of Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant in which he hoped the circle of war would not expand are a result of what the occupation officers soldiers about the tough time they have been having in Gaza whilst recalling statements by the Israeli army spokesman Daniel Hagari admitting that eliminating Hamas is like throwing dust in the eyes.

Al-Duwairi concluded the message of the officers is “stop swimming against the tide and recognize the reality, which is our inability to resolve the war with our weakest of regional enemies and end it, and talk of victory is not convincing and cannot be achieved.”

Out of reach

Dozens of reserve officers in the occupation army sent a message to Halevi in which they confirmed that achieving victory in Gaza is still out of reach. They stated: “We, who came from the battlefield know well that the situation is still far from achieving victory,” as reported by Israeli Channel 14.

The officers, who spent 200 days of reserve service in Gaza, stressed “the enemy still has cross-border capabilities, drones, explosive drones, mortar shells, a huge tunnel infrastructure and many living terrorists ready to continue fighting against us,” as they described it, according to Jo24.

Gaza’s Military Operations Disprove Netanyahu Claims

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s claims he is close to achieving victory against Hamas and the resistance in the Gaza Strip. But this is a falsehood according to CNN, in partnership with the Critical Threats Project (CTP) of the American Enterprise Institute and the Institute for the Study of War. They conducted a full analyses of the military situation in Gaza and say Netanyahu’s claim is baseless.

In front of Congress and amidst warm applause on 24 July, Netanyahu said “victory [over Hamas] is on the horizon,” but analyses of the military operations carried out by the resistance since the start of the “Al-Aqsa Flood” on 7 October, 2023 tell a different story and cast heavy doubts on these claims.

The analysis, based on military data from the resistance and the Israeli army, field footage, and interviews with experts and eyewitnesses, found about half of the military battalions affiliated with Hamas, in the northern and central Gaza Strip, have rebuilt their combat capabilities, despite the ongoing Israeli war of extermination Gaza with its declared aim to eleminate Hamas and the Palestinian resistance.

The research shows Hamas succeeded in using contradictory resources on the ground effectively, as several of its units have returned to key areas, where the “army” claimed to have dismantled the resistance and ended its presence after fierce battles and intensive bombardment.

Brian Carter, director of the “Middle East File” at “CTP” and the person who led the joint research, confirmed the inaccuracy of the occupation’s claims, saying: “The Israelis say that they cleansed a place, but they did not do so completely, and they did not defeat these fighters at all.”

From Under The Rubble

The Al-Qassam Brigades, The military wing of Hamas, includes 24 battalions spread throughout the Gaza Strip. The analyses in which CNN participated focused on rebuilding 16 battalions in the northern and central parts of the Strip, where the longest battles fought against the Israeli army.

As to southern Gaza, the analyses excluded the battalions there, due to “incomplete data on the status of the remaining eight battalions,” noting accurate data and scenes broadcast by the resistance confirm its continued fighting and carrying out qualitative operations against Israeli forces.

Of the 16 battalions, seven in the northern part of the devastated Strip have been able to rebuild some of their military capabilities, at least once, during the past six months.

The evidence showed the return of the resistance’s military activity in major flashpoints. In the Jabalia camp in the north, Israel acknowledged that last May, it once again faced fierce resistance from three Hamas battalions, despite the fact that the area was destroyed by Israeli bombardment that lasted for about three months in the early days of the war last fall.

In the Zeitoun neighborhood in Gaza City, Israel carried out four incursions, according to analyses.

Field sources in northern Gaza told CNN Hamas members were overseeing the destroyed markets, and reusing burned buildings as sites for the resistance. One Palestinian confirmed to the network Hamas’s presence in the area was “stronger than you can imagine.”

On January 7, four months after the war broke out, the Israeli army announced it had “dismantled the Hamas command structure in northern Gaza.” Only days later, there were reports of attacks on Israeli patrols in the eastern parts of Gaza City.

In the weeks that followed, videos showed Hamas fighters emerging from the rubble, likely through the Strip’s sprawling tunnel network.

Commenting on this, Brian Carter of CTP said Hamas rebounded less than a week after the Israeli army withdrew from the northern Gaza Strip in January. This spread throughout the Strip and continued, he added.

“This [return to the north] was the decisive operation that Hamas’s brigades took,” Carter added.

“Israel in Gaza is like a marathon runner… but it doesn’t know where it’s going”

A senior Israeli officer, told CNN on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak. He suggested Israel’s pursuit of Hamas everywhere in Gaza would take a very long time. “We will enter every place where Hamas raises its head,” the officer said. “Can this war go on forever? No. Our society is not prepared for this. The international community is not prepared for this either.”

In response, the officer likened Israeli military activity in the Gaza Strip to “a marathon runner who doesn’t know where the stadium is. He runs and doesn’t know if he’s going in the right direction.”

US Army Colonel Peter Mansoor, who helped oversee the deployment of 30,000 additional US troops to Iraq in 2007 in the strategy known as “The Surge” (which aims to “counter-insurgency”), said that “the fact that the Israelis are still in Gaza, trying to root out elements of Hamas’s brigades, shows that Netanyahu is wrong… Hamas’s ability to reconstitute its fighting forces has not diminished.”

“Qassam Brigades Draws Israeli Forces Into Fight”

In addition, a retired senior Israeli officer said that Hamas “began the recruitment process three or four months ago, and thousands have joined.” It is worth noting that the spokesman for the Qassam Brigades, Abu Obeida, revealed last month that the Brigades “managed to recruit thousands of new fighters during the war,” reassuring that their human capabilities were fine.

Meanwhile, the Qassam Brigades continue to drag Israeli forces into repeated cycles of fighting, as analyses have found.

The analyses indicated that the rebuilding process took place in two different ways, as some units of the Qassam Brigades reorganized their ranks, merging cells that had retreated in order to form effective combat battalions, while other units reactivated, recruited new fighters, and manufactured weapons.

Military Expert: Israel to Retreat From Tal Al Hawa in 72 Hrs

Military and strategic expert Major-General Fayez Al-Duwairi expects the Israeli army to be forced to retreat from Tel Al-Hawa in Gaza City, in the next 72 hours. The intensity and effectiveness of the resistance operations in the area will make sure of that, he added.

The Al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, announced it carried out several operations targeting Israeli soldiers and vehicles in Tel Al-Hawa. Al-Jazeera correspondent monitored the intense fighting in the neighborhood and the direct targeting of the occupation forces.

In an analysis of the military scene, Al-Duwairi pointed out there are four Israeli divisions fighting from Tel Al-Hawa to Rafah in the south. These are the 98, 99, 252 and 162 divisions, noting the fighting is fierce in most of theses areas, except in the northern region and parts of Gaza City.

Al-Duwairi explained the framework of operations in the areas surrounding Gaza city is difficult for the Israeli army, indicating it failed to achieve its goals in Jabalia, Shuja’iyya and Zeitoun, entering these areas repeatedly without achieving its goals.

The military expert pointed out that this is the sixth time the Israeli army enters this neighborhood, and this time as it will be forced to leave soon. He also pointed out the occupation army entered the camps area in the south twice with its  98th Division and failed, then sent the 36th Division and failed there as well.

Complete destruction

The real reasons for these Israeli incursions lie in the goal of completing the destruction of Gaza, displace more people and end the basic necessities of life, as each incursion is preceded by an Israel military order to the residents to evacuate the area.

In this context, he pointed out, the occupation destroyed the main water tank in Tel al-Sultan neighborhood in Rafah. He emphasized this reflects the army’s approach that is based on “gang ideology.”

Al-Duwairi, a military analyst in Al Jazeera Satellite Channel, pointed out the occupation doesn’t want the people who have been displaced to return, under the pretext of the infiltration of militants, which indicates a forced displacement process that may turn into permanent one.

As evidence of this, the military expert pointed out the Israeli army has completely destroyed homes and residential complexes in the south and east of Gaza City, and destroyed agricultural areas in the eastern region, saying such action is aimed at preventing people from returning.

Sniper bullet

Commenting on the sniper operation of an Israeli soldier in Khan Yunis broadcast by the Qassam Brigades, Al-Duwairi believes these Hamas fighters are using “leftover” war ammunition which reflect their ability to efficiently exploit available resources.

He explained the bullet that was used was 14.5 mm in caliber. He noted the use of these bullets reflects the resistance’s ingenuity in benefiting from weapons neglected and abandoned by the occupation soldiers.

Al-Duwairi pointed out the operation included accurate monitoring of occupation soldiers, which reflects a high level of planning and implementation, and best locations identified to carry out the sniper operation, which demonstrates professionalism on the part of the Palestinian fighters.

The military expert pointed out the morale of the Qassam fighters plays a decisive role in the success of the operations, stressing the sniper who carried out the operation enjoyed high confidence stemming from his belief in his cause.

He explained that the resistance does not only rely on recycling war remnants, but also uses strategies for direct reuse, as happened with the sniper bullets that appeared in this clip.

He pointed out the Al-Qassam Brigades use three main strategies: Reusing ready-made waste, recycling explosives, and reusing missiles dropped by occupation aircraft according to the Jo24.net website.
