Jaffa: Our Grandparents in 1945

This is photograph that is shown for the first time of children from Yaffa (Jafa); these children are probably now our grandparents. The image highlights how our grandparents lived during that wonderful summer, playing on the beach in the Manshiyya neighborhood, while camel caravans traveled along the shore laden with crates of oranges. The photograph is from 1945.

The bodies of the families were uncovered after days spent digging under the debris and rubble of their homes by the Gaza civil defense officers.  The massacre of the Al Huseinya and Abu Sharieh families was perpetrated in 23 November, 2023 after their homes were bombed by the Israeli army as it targeted a residential complex in Al Sabra in Gaza City. Black days indeed.
