Israel Killed Sinwar Through Accident

Hamas announced today that its leader Yahya Sinwar was killed by Israeli forces. Sinwar, who has been described as the man whom Israel fears, was killed in what appears to have been an accidental encounter. Rather than being the result of a meticulously planned assassination, Sinwar’s martyrdom came after he directly engaged with Israeli troops after he found them, according to Israeli Walla.

On the day of the incident, Sinwar appeared in plain view, attacking Israeli soldiers with gunfire and grenades. He managed to wound several troops before retreating into a nearby building. From there, the Hamas leader continued to launch makeshift weapons, including rocks and sticks, as well as grenades, at the soldiers stationed at a distance. The Israeli soldiers, who were not aware that they were fighting their most wanted man, shelled the building.

This unexpected and fierce engagement is a sharp contrast to Israel’s earlier intelligence efforts, which had previously claimed that it pinpointed Sinwar’s whereabouts but refrained from action due to ‘concerns over the safety of Israeli prisoners’.

Reports from The Jewish Chronicle in August 2023 alleged that Israeli intelligence had multiple chances to kill Sinwar after locating his hiding tunnels in Gaza. However, Israel did not kill Sinwar claiming that he was using Israeli prisoners as human shields.

According to the testimonies, as IDF soldiers leave Lebanon, they load stolen items onto their vehicles openly, without attempting to conceal them. “It’s on a crazy scale,” one soldier said. “Anyone who takes something – televisions, cigarettes, tools, whatever – immediately puts it in their vehicle or leaves it off to the side, not inside the army base, but it’s not hidden. Everyone sees it and understands.” – The Palestine Project
