Israel Kills Palestinian Police Commander to Spread Chaos

Gaza’s Interior Ministry on Saturday said Israel is deliberately targeting the Palestinian police force to spread chaos in the enclave after the killing of the police chief of North Gaza governorate.

In a statement, the ministry said the killing of Brig. Gen. Abdul Nasser Mohammed Al-Maqadma reflected Israel’s continued targeting of the police force “with the aim of spreading chaos in the Gaza Strip.”

It stated that 53 police commanders, officers and personnel have been killed in direct Israeli attacks on police headquarters, patrols, vehicles and personnel since the ceasefire agreement took effect in October last year.

The ministry called on the international community and mediating countries to intervene urgently and pressure Israel to stop targeting the police, describing the force as “a civilian institution protected under international law” that is responsible for maintaining public order and serving residents as reported by Anadolu.

It said Al-Maqadma’s killing came less than two weeks after an Israeli strike on the Jabalia refugee camp police station on July 14 that killed seven police officers, including the station chief and his deputy, Yamen Mohammed Obeid, who died of his wounds on Saturday.

The ministry vowed that the police would continue carrying out their duties despite repeated attacks.

Earlier Saturday, the ministry announced that Al-Maqadma, 54, was killed in an Israeli airstrike in the Sheikh Radwan neighborhood in northwestern Gaza City.

Separately, the Israeli army carried out massive demolitions of Palestinian homes and buildings in areas under its control east of Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip, according to an Anadolu correspondent.

According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, 1,191 Palestinians have been killed and 3,853 others injured in Israeli attacks since the ceasefire agreement took effect in October.

Israel has continued its military offensive on Gaza since Oct. 8, 2023. According to Palestinian authorities, the war has killed more than 73,000 people and wounded over 173,000, while causing widespread destruction to civilian infrastructure across the enclave.

Israel Arrests 3,600 West Bank Palestinians Since The Start of 2026

The Palestinian Prisoners Club, a human rights organization, announced that 3,600 Palestinians have been arrested in the West Bank since the beginning of 2026. This is in addition to thousands of cases of field interrogation it added and it is part of an Israeli policy aimed at expanding the scope of targeting and collective punishment.

In a statement issued, Saturday, the Prisoners Club explained that these daily arrests have become a primary tool for the comprehensive aggression in the West Bank.

The Israel occupation is entrenching the use of field interrogation as a standard tool of repression, accompanied by the detention of citizens for extended periods, the eviction of families from their homes, and the implementation of widespread acts of vandalism and physical and psychological abuse.

The statement further noted that the majority of the recent arrests and field interrogations stemmed from Palestinians confronting settler attacks and attempting to protect their lands and towns, at a time when settler attacks are escalating under the protection of the occupation forces.

This escalation on the ground reached its peak in the town of Tell in the Nablus Governorate, where dozens of residents were arrested and subjected to field interrogations following the massacre perpetrated by the occupation forces in the town, Friday, as part of a policy of revenge and collective punishment.

From yesterday evening until this morning, the occupation forces launched a widespread campaign of arrests and field interrogations targeting at least 80 Palestinians from various areas of the West Bank, including released prisoners.

The Palestinian Prisoners Club confirmed that the number of detainees is expected to rise in the coming hours, as raids and incursions continue in several West Bank governorates.

According to official human rights data, the number of prisoners in Israeli prisons at the beginning of July exceeded 9,400, including 3,244 administrative detainees. This number does not include detainees held in detention centers run by the Israeli army.

Francesca Albanese: Attacks on Palestinians ‘Pogroms’

UN Special Rapporteur on the occupied Palestinian territories Francesca Albanese on Saturday described Israeli attacks against Palestinian civilians across the occupied West Bank as “pogroms,” calling for an immediate arms embargo and a halt to trade with Israel.

“Pogroms against defenseless civilians all over the West Bank, while Gaza is under fire,” Albanese said on US social media platform X.

She accused Israeli civilians and the army of “joining forces” in the attacks, arguing that responsibility was not limited to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu or “a few rotten apples.”

“Arms embargo now — stop trade now,” Albanese said, adding that such measures are required under international law.

On Friday, Israeli Premier Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz ordered a “wide-scale military operation” in Palestinian villages across the West Bank following an attack near the illegal Havat Gilad settlement that killed two Israeli soldiers and wounded three others.

According to sources and witnesses, Israeli occupiers later attacked several Palestinian communities in the Nablus governorate, setting fire to Palestinian homes and other property.

Four Palestinians were killed on Friday in an attack by Israeli occupiers and Israeli forces on the town of Tell, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry. Anadolu
