Marriage Among The Ruins

To get married in Gaza today is no easy feat. Its no longer an individual choice or a natural development for the young men and brides of the enclave. Under this genocide, it has become complex social and economic equation governed by the consequences of the continuing Israeli war on the Gaza Strip and the collapse of its civil society and many of its sectors. Between a housing crisis and unprecedented rise in the cost of living and “preparing a home”, 1000’s of young people find themselves unable to form a family,  or even think of getting married.

    CROSSFIREARABIA – Palestinian leader Dr. Mustafa Barghouti affirmed that the brutal genocidal war waged by the Israeli occupation against the Palestinian people of the Gaza Strip has been transformed into a war of attrition—humanitarian, economic, and humanitarian—all in full view of the world.  He stressed that the practices of oppression and abuse will not succeed in breaking the will of the Palestinian people and will not stop them from continuing to resist injustice and repression.  He added that Israel is not hiding the fact that it is involved in a process of ethnic cleansing coupled with terrorist settler groups in the West Bank under a fascist government with Israeli army protection. He added the western soft sanctions against settlers is nothing but “ashes” and what is needed is real and effective sanctions against the Israeli government which finances and protects the terrorists.

Perhaps the most important project associated with his name is Al Jazeera satellite channel, launched in 1996 with all its Arabic and English channels, etc. Al Jazeera revolutionized Arab media, transcending all traditional frameworks in terms of media freedom and its disregard for journalistic conventions, such as presenting official news, instead offering unconventional programming. Among the most significant news coverages that emerged from Al Jazeera was its comprehensive coverage of the Israeli war of genocide on the Gaza Strip.
