Civil Defense Shuts Down in North Gaza

The Civil Defense in Northern Gaza reported:

Our operations have completely shut down in Northern Gaza, and the situation has become catastrophic there; civilians present are now without humanitarian services.

Israeli occupying forces arrested five of our personnel in the Sheikh Zayed area.

Israeli tanks targeted the only firefighting vehicle in Northern Gaza with shells, setting it on fire.

Three of our personnel were injured when targeted by an Israeli drone in the Beit Lahiya project, and communication with them has been lost; their fate is unknown.

‘Death is Everywhere’ – Dr Mohammad Obeid

Testimony from Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) orthopaedic surgeon, Dr Mohammed Obeid, sheltering in Kamal Adwan hospital, north Gaza – gathered on 22 October 2024.

“There is death in all types and forms in Kamal Adwan hospital and north Gaza. The bombardment does not stop. The artillery does not stop. The planes do not stop. There is heavy shelling, and the hospital is targeted too. It just looks like a movie; it does not seem real.

About five days ago, my house was hit. They completely blew up the roof and water tanks, but we were at the ground floor and only one person got injured, thank God. We left a few times, moving to different areas, my family and neighbours were terrified. I sheltered in Kamal Adwan hospital with my wife and children, and I am now working here, where I can treat numerous patients.

There are no words to describe the situation in Kamal Adwan hospital: it is disastrous. The hospital is completely overwhelmed. There are injured people everywhere, outside and inside the hospital, and we do not have medical and surgical equipment to treat them.

Ambulances cannot move. We cannot reach the bodies of the people killed and cannot save the injured ones who lie in the streets. Many of them died before reaching the hospital, and others died inside the hospital as we could not treat their wounds.

We have 30 people dead inside the hospital, and around 130 injured patients who need urgent medical care. Medical staff are exhausted, and many are injured as well. We feel hopeless. I just don’t have words.

We call on all the countries in the world to consider north Gaza, and to lift the blockade that has led to the death of so many people.”

138 Soldiers Refuse to Serve in The Israeli Army

Fifteen more Israeli soldiers have refused to serve in the army until a prisoner exchange deal is reached with Palestinians, according to Israeli media on Wednesday.

Walla news portal said the new soldiers joined a total of 138 soldiers, who signed a letter declaring their refusal to serve without a deal, according to Anadolu.

The letter was sent to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, army chief Herzi Halevi and other Israeli government officials.

“The war in Gaza sentences our brothers and sisters and the hostages to death,” the letter reads.

Israel estimates that some 101 captives are still held by the Hamas group in Gaza, some of whom are believed to have been already killed by Israeli ongoing and indiscriminate airstrikes across the tiny enclave.

Mediation efforts led by the US, Egypt and Qatar to reach a Gaza cease-fire and prisoner swap agreement between Israel and Hamas have failed over Netanyahu’s refusal to end the war.

The Israeli army has continued a devastating offensive on the Gaza Strip since a Hamas attack last year, despite a UN Security Council resolution demanding an immediate cease-fire.

More than 42,700 people have since been killed, mostly women and children, and over 100,300 others injured, according to local health authorities.

The Israeli onslaught on Gaza has displaced almost the territory’s entire population amid an ongoing blockade that has led to severe shortages of food, clean water, and medicine.

Israel faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its actions in Gaza, according to the Turkish news agency.

10 People Killed in School Bombing in Jabalia

At least 10 civilians were killed and 30 others were injured today as a result of the Israeli occupation artillery shelling of the Jabalia Preparatory School, which houses displaced people in Jabalia Camp, north of the Gaza Strip.

Local sources said medical teams recovered the bodies of at least 10 slain Palestinians and a number of wounded in Israeli artillery shelling of Jabalia Preparatory School in the Al-Fawqa area schools square, which is a UNRWA shelter for displaced people in Jabalia camp, north of the Gaza Strip.

Medical sources indicated that 57 citizens were killed in the occupation raids on the Gaza Strip since dawn today, 44 of them in the north of the Strip.

The occupation is adopting a policy of starvation and exhaustion in Jabalia, and that some families that the crews reached had not eaten for five days.

In turn, UNRWA reported that every minute counts and the delay in allowing entry into northern Gaza means that rescue teams are unable to reach the wounded according to WAFA.
