Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya: His Life Teetering on Death

Physicians for Human Rights has warned that the health of Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, director of Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza, has deteriorated significantly following his transfer to Nitzan Prison.

The organization said its lawyer, Nasser Odeh, documented severe injuries, signs of physical assault, breathing difficulties, and repeated episodes of loss of consciousness during a visit to Abu Safiya on July 2.

According to Odeh, Abu Safiya was brought to the meeting with his hands and feet shackled and surrounded by masked prison guards. He had fresh and serious injuries and bruises to his head, around his eyes, ears, and neck, making him difficult to recognize.

Physicians for Human Rights Israel renewed its call for the release of Abu Safiya and other doctors who it said are being held without charges or trial.

Naji Abbas, director of the Prisoners and Detainees Department at the organization, said the information received raises immediate and serious concern for Abu Safiya’s life. He described the lawyer’s testimony as among the most disturbing the organization has heard since the war began, citing Abu Safiya’s statement that he feared he would be killed while in custody.

Abbas said Abu Safiya’s condition worsened after he challenged the continuation of his detention in court, adding that the sequence of events warrants an immediate and independent investigation. He stressed that Israeli authorities bear full responsibility for the health, safety, and life of anyone in custody and called for urgent intervention.

US Tried to War Iran Israel May Try to Kill its Negotiators

US officials tried to warn Iran this spring that they were concerned Israel might assassinate Iranian negotiators during talks, the New York Post reported Friday, citing two US officials.

According to the officials, the US feared Israel could target Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Iran’s parliament speaker and a lead figure in talks with Washington, or Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, who has also played a visible role in the negotiations.

The officials said the warnings were passed along through intermediaries.

As of Friday, there was no immediate sign that US intelligence had information about a specific assassination plot behind the warning.

However, Israel’s top defense official has publicly expressed support for killing senior Iranian leaders, and President Donald Trump has previously said such actions were making negotiations more difficult.

In March, Trump refused to identify who the US was negotiating with in Iran, saying he did not want them to be killed.

He added that the situation was difficult because, in his words, “They’ve wiped out everybody.”

The Israeli Prime Minister’s Office denied a New York Times report on the matter, saying on US social media company X that the story was “fake news” and “a complete fabrication of reality.” Anadolu

Secretary-general of the Palestinian Union For Sports Media Mustapha Siyam said that the Israeli occupation killed more than 1012 sportsmen and scouts in the Gaza Strip since it began war offensive on 7 October, 2023. He added that during this war Israel killed 560 footballers and their trainers. Siyam pointed out that Israel destroyed all the official Palestinian sports institutions in the Gaza Strip and the football fields were turned into places for thousands of families displaced in this war on the enclave.
