‘Lebanon is The Graveyard of Israeli Prime Ministers’ – Gabi Eisenkot
Lebanon has been the graveyard for Israeli prime ministers, from Menachem Begin to Ehud Olmert and now Benjamin Netanyahu according to ex-chief-of-staff Gabi Eisenkot and Netanyahu’s rival in the upcoming elections.
In a Yediot Aharonot article, Eisenkot wrote: “Netanyahu’s attempt to cover up the 7th October debacle by claiming military achievements, has collapsed; he is prepared to do anything, even sacrifice a kidney, to ensure the formation of a political commission of inquiry to support him.”
“Lebanon has been a political graveyard for prime ministers, from Menachem Begin to Ehud Olmert, and now Netanyahu is mired in its own quagmire,” he emphasized.
“We hear Netanyahu is threatening to expel Haim Katz from the Likud party, while if he ran alone without the party, he wouldn’t win more than 10 seats. Even David Ben-Gurion, a far greater figure, failed in his experiment with the Rafi party,” Eisenkot added.
Gadi Eisenkot served as Chief of the General Staff of the Israel Defense Forces between 2015 till 2019 and is known as the architect of the “Dahiya Doctrine,” which relies on the use of disproportionate force and the implementation of a policy of “collective punishment” against the civilian population supporting any armed movement targeting the State of Israel. The aim is to inflict damage that necessitates lengthy and costly reconstruction efforts.
In 2022, he entered politics, serving as a minister in the emergency government, where he emerged as one of the most prominent figures in the Israeli opposition. Quds Press.
