Kamal Adwan: Israel is Determined to ‘Kill’ This Hospital

The Israeli occupation army is determined to close down the Kamal Adwan Hospital. They have planted barrel bombs among Palestinian homes around the only remaining medical facility in the north of the Gaza Strip.

An Israeli quadcopter has targeted the hospital with more than 10 deadly bombs with the military strikes becoming so bad that electricity was cut off as a result of bombing the generator of the hospital.

Director of Kamal Adwan Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya said that the hospital’s buildings, yard, and vicinity have been targeted since Monday, killing at least five civilians and injuring 29.

Dr. Munir Al-Bursh, Director-General of Palestine’s Ministry of Health in Gaza, reported that Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza lost power after Israeli occupation forces directly targeted its generators with a bomb dropped from a quadcopter drone.

Meanwhile Israeli snipers targeted the intensive care unit (ICU) at Kamal Adwan Hospital for the first time, according to Dr. Abu Safiyyah said. The attack shattered all the ICU windows and created a deadly environment for patients and staff.

“Snipers are stationed in elevated positions,” Dr. Abu Safiyyah explained. “Anyone moving inside the hospital wings risks getting shot,” marking a dangerous escalation in the ongoing bombardment of the hospital.

From Monday forward, relentless Israeli strikes targeted the Hospital and its surroundings making it impossible for medics to operate safely whilst disabling three of the hospital’s four ambulances and injuring two paramedics.

“We now treat some patients in the hospital corridors,” Dr. Abu Safiyyah said. The strikes have destroyed critical infrastructure, including electricity, water supplies, and oxygen systems. Repair efforts are impossible under continued targeting, leaving the hospital on the brink of collapse.

The hospital director called for urgent international intervention. “We need immediate protection for the health system and its workers. So far, no one has stepped in to help or condemned these attacks,” he added.

The Kamal Adwan Hospital, which serves women and children, faces life-threatening conditions for its staff and patients amid silence from global powers. Dr. Abu Safiyyah questioned the world’s inaction, saying: “What crime has this hospital committed while offering humanitarian services?”

The situation grows worse every hour as essential medical operations falter. Without swift action, the hospital may face complete devastation.

During its ongoing genocidal war on Gaza, Israel has targeted hospitals and medical staff, causing the health sector to collapse. This was part of an Israeli plan to make Gaza uninhabitable and ethnically cleanse the Strip either through pushing Palestinians to leave and/or kill them.

Haaretz Confirms Gazan Doctor Killed Under Torture

Israeli news outlet Haaretz confirmed that Dr. Iyad Rantisi, the head of the obstetrics department at Kamal Adwan Hospital in Gaza, was killed under torture while in Israeli custody. Dr. Rantisi died in November 2023, six days after his arrest by Israeli forces during the Gaza genocide. Israeli authorities did not inform his family of his death until after Haaretz’s report in June 2024.

The official cause of death was recorded as a heart attack, but signs of severe trauma were found on his body. These injuries raised suspicions that he had been subjected to violence during interrogation. While an internal investigation conducted by the Ministry of Justice concluded that there was no basis for a criminal investigation against the Shin Bet interrogators, the findings were forwarded to the Police Investigations Unit (PIU) for further review according to the Quds News Network.

Dr. Munir Al-Bursh, Director-General of the Palestinian Ministry of Health, revealed that Dr. Rantisi was abducted in November 2023 while moving to southern Gaza, which Israel had declared a “safe zone.” According to Al-Bursh, Dr. Rantisi had complained of chest pains resulting from the intense torture he endured during his detention. Despite this, Israeli authorities provided no details on the circumstances surrounding his arrest or treatment.

Dr. Rantisi’s death is part of a broader pattern of fatalities among Palestinian detainees since October 2023. At least four Palestinians have died while in Israeli custody during this period. Two of these cases involved visible signs of torture on the bodies of the detainees. In many cases, the families of the deceased were left in the dark until news outlets exposed the incidents.

The Israeli authorities have continued to avoid accountability, with the Ministry of Justice’s inquiries failing to trigger criminal investigations.

A Palestinian human rights report published in June stated that the number of detainees killed under torture in Israeli prisons and detention camps since October, 2023 is the highest in the history of the Palestinian prisoners’ movement.

The report revealed that at least 18 prisoners were officially declared dead by specialized organizations since the start of the genocide. It also noted that dozens of detainees from Gaza lost their lives in Israeli prisons and camps, with their identities yet to be disclosed.
