Australian singer-songwriter Iyah May garnered widespread attention after her latest track, “Karmageddon,” went viral on social media. She revealed that her management dropped her for refusing to change lyrics that branded Israel’s actions in Gaza as “genocide.”
In late 2024, the manager dropped May as she refused to change specific lyrics of the song. She revealed this on her Instagram in November.
In the song, May rails against “big pharma,” a “man-made virus,” “cancel culture,” and a war that she brands “genocide,” referring to Israel’s actions in Gaza.
Erasing any doubt about the lyrical targets, May’s website describes the track as “addressing the pandemic narrative, corruption within political, pharmaceutical, and health institutions, the Israel-Palestine conflict, violence against women and the social chaos that has swept through the world in the past few years.”
“While Karmageddon has sparked significant conversation and controversy, Iyah has stood her ground,” the website shares. “She refused to compromise her vision when asked to change a key lyric line, leading to the end of her contract with her manager. She chose to walk away from her record label and now, fully independent, Iyah continues to carve her own path as an artist.”
In the song, May says, “More than war, it’s genocide” and “Kids are killed from Israel’s actions.”
Despite losing her contract and manager, May’s Karmageddon has gone viral receiving support and likes from everywhere. On her Instagram, she expressed her gratitude to the people who supported her by saying:
“Thank you for getting behind this track with me. It’s been a journey to get this song out there and there were people who tried to stop this from happening.”
Raised in Far North Queensland in a tiny rainforest village in Australia, May pursued medicine in New York, where she met rapper Shaggy by coincidence and performed for him, accoridng to reports. Thus, setting the path for a music career as well. Before taking on the stage name ‘Iyah May’, she performed under the name, “Mayah”.
The track has caught the attention of those on the right, with Ryan Fournier, a political activist and chair of Students for Trump, sharing a clip of the song on X, formerly Twitter.

Since October 7, 2023, the United States has spent over $22 billion in military aid for Israel. This includes assaults on Gaza, Lebanon, and Syria.
The Stockholm International Peace Research Institute reports that the US supplied 69% of Israel’s arms from 2019 to 2023. This share rose to 78% by the end of that period.
In December 2023, the US delivered over 10,000 tons of weapons worth $2.4 billion to Israel. By August 2024, this number increased to 50,000 tons, transported via hundreds of planes and ships.
The US has provided advanced military equipment to Israel. This includes Iron Dome missiles, precision-guided bombs, CH-53 helicopters, AH-64 Apache helicopters, 155mm artillery shells, bunker-busting munitions, and armored vehicles.
Since 1946, US military and economic aid to Israel has totaled over $310 billion, adjusted for inflation. A 10-year, $38 billion military aid deal signed in 2016 remains active, allocating $3.8 billion annually. Emergency packages in 2024 added billions more, including $14.1 billion approved in February and a $2.5 billion arms shipment in March.
US weapons used mainly against civilians have drawn condemnation. Critics point to limited Congressional oversight and ongoing scrutiny over the impact on Palestinians in Gaza.
In December 2023, a group of Palestinians filed a lawsuit against the US State Department. The lawsuit accuses the department of bypassing US human rights laws to fund Israeli military units accused of committing atrocities in Gaza and the West Bank.
Filed in the US District Court for the District of Columbia, the lawsuit states that Secretary of State Antony Blinken ignored the Leahy Law. This law prohibits US military aid to units committing gross human rights violations without accountability.
One plaintiff, a teacher from Gaza, was displaced seven times during the genocide. He lost 20 family members in the genocide.
The lawsuit criticizes the US for supporting Israel amid escalating human rights abuses since the genocide began in October 2023.
The US Senate is set to vote on legislation to block specific arms sales to Israel. Senator Bernie Sanders, along with Democratic Senators Jeff Merkley and Peter Welch, introduced resolutions to prevent the sale of 120mm mortar shells and Joint Direct Attack Munitions (JDAMs).
Another resolution, supported by Senator Brian Schatz, seeks to halt tank shell sales. JDAMs, manufactured by Boeing, convert unguided bombs into GPS-guided weapons.
Despite these efforts, bipartisan support for Israel makes it unlikely the resolutions will pass. Advocates argue that Israel has obstructed aid shipments desperately needed by Palestinian civilians in Gaza.

In the heart of the town of Beit Lahia in the northern Gaza Strip, where the Israeli army is committing crimes of genocide and ethnic cleansing, the Kamal Adwan Hospital continues to operate with minimal of capabilities as the last stronghold of steadfastness in the face of the Israeli war machine.
The hospital bears the name of one of the leaders of the Palestinian revolution and the most prominent symbols of the Fatah movement, and constitutes a last resort for patients and the wounded in the north who have not found an alternative that provides them with the minimum of medical and humanitarian services.
Since the Israeli army’s attack on the northern governorate on 5 October, which coincided with a comprehensive military siege, the hospital has been subjected to dozens of targeting operations with missiles and gunfire, as a health official said the Israeli army treats it as a “military target”.
Despite this, the hospital’s medical staff, consisting of two doctors at most and a small number of nurses, continued to perform their humanitarian duty, and refused to obey the army’s multiple orders to evacuate its buildings and leave the governorate despite the ongoing crimes against them.
Beit Lahia, like many other parts of the Gaza Strip, was subjected to a policy of “urban annihilation” of its architectural and cultural fabric through the implementation of comprehensive erasure operations and the complete destruction of homes, residential neighborhoods and infrastructure, and the elimination of the means of survival for Palestinians, according to a statement by the Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor.
The Kamal Adwan Hospital, the largest hospital in the Northern Governorate, which used to provide services to more than 400,000 people, is currently operating under conditions and lacking capabilities due to the Israeli targeting of it since October 2023, which Anadolu Agency monitored as follows:
Since the beginning of the war, the Israeli army continued to launch intensive raids on the hospital’s surroundings, in addition to blowing up buildings and residential areas next to it, which resulted in much damage in addition to deaths and injuries inside and outside the hospital.
