Ceasefire: Israel Gets a Battering

Israel’s Channel 12 revealed that the war with Hezbollah has resulted in the deaths of 124 Israelis, 79 soldiers of whom, since the escalation of the war last September.

Israeli army radio reported that sirens sounded 22,715 times in Israel as a result of Hezbollah attacks, including 16,198 warnings due to missile strikes and 6,517 warnings due to drones.

Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper also reported that data from the property tax indicates that more than 9,000 buildings and 7,000 vehicles were completely destroyed in northern Israel due to Hezbollah fire.

The Israeli government has so far paid 140 million shekels ($38.4 million) in compensation for damages, amid expectations that the number will increase due to ongoing evacuations and unreported injuries.

A poll conducted by Israel’s Channel 13 showed that 61% of Israelis believe that their country has not defeated Hezbollah, while 66% of them expressed their support for ending the genocidal war in the Gaza Strip in order to reach a prisoner exchange deal.

The ceasefire agreement between Hezbollah and Israel went into effect at dawn on Wednesday, thus ending more than 13 months of military confrontations across the border and two months of open war between the two sides according to the Palestine Information Center.

Hezbollah Destroys 8800 Houses in North Israel – Yedioth Ahronoth

The Israeli media confirmed that the destruction in the settlement of Kiryat Shmona is unbelievable, and the restoration of the damaged schools alone will take four months to complete.

The Israeli Yedioth Ahronoth said that there is hardly a building in the border towns with Lebanon that is not in ruin and most of the houses there need to be restored and/or demolished.

The newspaper pointed out “the number of destroyed homes in the north exceeded 8,800 homes, and more than 7000 vehicles and about 300 agricultural sites damaged.

Since 23 September, the Israeli occupation forces expanded the scope of the genocide they have carried out in Gaza since 7 October, 2023 to include most areas of Lebanon, including Beirut, through unprecedentedly violent intense air strikes, and also began a ground incursion into the south, disregarding international warnings and UN resolutions.

The Israeli occupation army, supported by the United States and Europe, continues its aggression on the Gaza Strip for the 415th consecutive day, as its warplanes bomb the vicinity of hospitals, buildings, towers and homes of Palestinian civilians and destroy them over the heads of their residents, and prevents the entry of water, food, medicine and fuel.

The aggression has left more than 148,000 Palestinian martyrs and wounded, most of them children and women, and more than 10,000 missing, amid massive destruction and famine that killed dozens of children and the elderly. In one of the world’s worst humanitarian disasters according to Quds Press.

6 Suicides Eke Mental Health Crisis in Israeli Army

At least six Israeli soldiers have taken their own lives in recent months, the Israeli daily Yedioth Ahronoth revealed on Friday, citing severe psychological distress caused by prolonged wars in the Gaza Strip and southern Lebanon as the primary cause.

The investigation suggests the actual number of suicides may be higher, as the Israeli military has yet to release official figures, despite a promise to disclose them by the end of the year.

The report highlights a broader mental health crisis within the Israeli army. Thousands of soldiers have sought help from military mental health clinics or field psychologists, with approximately a third of those affected showing symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

According to the investigation, the number of soldiers suffering psychological trauma may exceed those with physical injuries from the war.

The daily cites experts as saying the full extent of this mental health crisis will become clear once military operations are completed and troops return to normal life.

In March, Lucian Tatsa-Laur, head of the Israeli military’s mental health department, told Haaretz that approximately 1,700 soldiers had received psychological treatment.

Multiple reports have since emerged indicating that thousands of troops are suffering from mental health issues owing to extended deployments in Gaza and southern Lebanon.

Regional tension has escalated due to Israel’s brutal offensive on the Gaza Strip, which has killed over 44,000 people, mostly women and children, since a Hamas attack last year.

The second year of the genocide in Gaza has drawn growing international condemnation, with figures and institutions labeling the attacks and blocking of aid deliveries as a deliberate attempt to destroy a population.

Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its deadly war on Gaza.

In a landmark move, the International Criminal Court on Thursday announced it had issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant over war crimes in Palestinian territories, including Gaza.

The conflict has spread to Lebanon, with Israel launching deadly strikes across the country in an escalation from a year of cross-border warfare between Israel and Hezbollah since the start of the Gaza war.

Expert: Israeli Soldiers in State of ‘War Fatigue’

Military expert Brigadier-General Mohammed Al-Samadi said the killing of five Israeli soldiers in two separate incidents in the Gaza Strip confirms the resistance’s exploitation of the rubble and debris of houses to launch sniper operations against occupation soldiers.

Al-Samadi added Israel imposes a blackout and censorship on its real losses in Gaza, as the operations indicate they are much greater than what is announced, pointing out the morale of the soldiers has declined significantly, because they have come to realize the futility of the war they are fighting.

The military expert cited talk about reducing the periods of service of the occupation forces, saying it confirms attempts to reduce cases of evasion from conscription and perhaps complete abstention from service due to frustration and “war fatigue”.

According to Al-Samadi, the resistance does not need large numbers of fighters to launch its operations, while the occupation army needs entire battalions and brigades in order to continue the war.

He pointed out the danger of the Israeli soldiers’ reluctance to go to war “at this dangerous stage in the life of the state”, and said that it reflects a lack of faith in the political leadership and the usefulness of the war, in addition to the fact that last October was the bloodiest month in the ranks of the occupation army.

Reducing period of service

The Israeli occupation army decided to reduce the period of reserve service from an average of 20 weeks for each soldier to only 9 weeks after the unusual decrease in the number of applicants for service, according to Israeli media.

Israeli media revealed a significant decrease in the number of reserve soldiers joining the Israeli army as a result of the government pushing a bill that allows the continued exemption of religious Jews from military service, as well as due to fatigue.

Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper said that the army is concerned about a decrease of between 15% and 25% in reserve service, and explained that this feeling emerged in recent weeks in the combat brigades in the Gaza Strip, and on the northern front – during the war on Lebanon – stressing that it affects the army’s operational decisions according to Al Jazeera.

Netanyahu Acknowledges Hamas Still Rules Gaza

The Yedioth Ahronoth has reported the government of Benjamin Netanyahu has informed the Israeli Supreme Court that Hamas are still the rulers of Gaza and that the occupation army continues to face stiff resistance underground and above it.

The newspaper stated that the Netanyahu’s government was responding in Supreme Court sessions to examine a petition submitted by organizations concerned with the humanitarian situation and the distribution of aid in the Gaza Strip.

In its response the government stated Israel does not maintain effective control over Gaza and the army’s presence in the Strip is limited in a way that does not allow for actual control and activation of the powers of government as reported in Al Jazeera.

The Israeli government stressed Hamas is still able to exercise its powers of government in the Strip, and the occupation army is still facing armed resistance in Gaza from what it described as enemies in the enclave, both in underground tunnels and open lands.

“In the framework of operational activity, IDF forces are still facing armed resistance…underground and above ground, by planting explosive devices, anti-tank fire and snipers, launching rockets and trying to lure our forces into booby-trapped houses, etc,” the government stated.

It pointed out Hamas “is returning and operating in areas from which the IDF withdrew and is trying to rebuild its strength there.”

Supreme Court justices have several sessions over the past months to study the petition submitted by Israeli organizations, and Yedioth Ahronoth explained the judges receive periodic updates on the situation in Gaza but have not yet decided on the fate of the petition.
