Gaza is Not a Property For Sale

Senior Hamas official Izzat Al-Risheq condemned Donald Trump’s remarks about buying and owning Gaza, stating that Gaza is not a property to be bought or sold; it is an inseparable part of our occupied Palestinian land. Al-Risheq confirmed that Palestinians are clinging to their land and have rejected all plans aimed at ethnically cleansing them.

Additionally, he said Gaza belongs to its people, and they will only leave it to return to their cities and villages occupied in 1948.

The Palestinian Hamas group on Monday called the Trump statements as “absurd” and a reflection of “profound ignorance” about Palestine and the region.

“We denounce Trump’s remarks about buying and owning Gaza. These statements are absurd.” Izzat al-Rishq, a member of Hamas’ political bureau, said in a statement.

He added such comments “demonstrate a profound ignorance of Palestine and the region.”

“Gaza is not a piece of real estate to be bought and sold, it is an inseparable part of our occupied Palestinian land,” al-Rishq stressed.

He warned that treating the Palestinian cause with a “real estate dealer’s mindset” is doomed to fail, stressing that “the Palestinian people will thwart all plans of displacement and forced relocation.”

On Sunday, Trump said he is committed to buying Gaza and letting other nations develop parts of it.

“I’m committed to buying and owning Gaza,” Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One en route to New Orleans, Louisiana.

He also reiterated that the Palestinian enclave is a demolition site and uninhabitable.

On Feb. 4, Trump said Washington would “take over” Gaza and resettle Palestinians elsewhere under an extraordinary redevelopment plan that he claimed could turn the enclave into “the Riviera of the Middle East.”

His proposal was met with widespread condemnation from the Palestinians, Arab countries, and many other nations across the world, including Canada, France, Germany, and the UK according to Anadolu.

US President Donald Trump confirmed Sunday that he is serious about his repeated remarks that Canada should become his country’s 51st state.

In an interview with Fox News, he was asked whether Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was correct in saying the idea was “a real thing.”

“Yes, it is,” Trump responded.

He argued that Canada “would be much better off” as part of the US and criticized the $200 billion the US spends annually on its neighbor to the north.

He claimed this amount, which his administration previously linked to defense costs and trade deficits, was effectively a “subsidy” to Canada.

“I’m not gonna let that happen,” Trump said regarding the payments, adding: “Now, if they’re the 51st state, I don’t mind doing it.”

Trump has made similar remarks in recent months, referring to Trudeau as a “governor” rather than a prime minister.

While some have dismissed the comments as rhetoric, Trudeau reportedly told business leaders Friday to take Trump’s statements seriously according to Anadolu.

US President Donald Trump has reiterated his commitment to controlling and buying Gaza, dismissing objections from its native Palestinian inhabitants. In a recent statement, Trump declared his commitment to buying Gaza, sparking controversy by framing the Palestinian cause as a real estate issue.

Trump also proposed potentially reallocating parts of Gaza to other countries in the Middle East. “We could give parts of Gaza to neighboring countries,” he added, hinting at fulfilling Israel’s expansionist ambitions.

Speaking to journalists, Trump had proposed transforming Gaza into the “Riviera of the Middle East”. He suggested inviting “the world’s people” to move there while expelling over 2 million native Palestinians. Last year, Kushner said Israel should remove Gaza’s population while “cleaning up” the area. In an interview with Harvard’s Middle East Initiative, he proposed bulldozing parts of the Negev Desert to relocate Palestinians there. He also suggested that, “with the right diplomacy,” Israel could push Palestinians out through the Rafah crossing into Egypt.

Poll: 47% Believe Trump ‘Take Over’ of Gaza is ‘Bad Idea’

Nearly half of Americans rejected US President Donald Trump’s proposal to “take over” the Gaza Strip and relocate Palestinians to neighboring countries, calling it a “bad idea,” as did several major Arab, European, and other countries around the world.

According to a CBS News/YouGov poll conducted between Feb. 5 and 7, in which 2,175 US adults were polled and released on Sunday, 47% of Americans believe the US proposal to “take over” Gaza is a “bad idea,” with only 13% supporting it and 40% unsure or saying “it depends.”

The poll also found that 34% of respondents had little or no knowledge of the proposal to relocate Palestinians from Gaza, which has been nearly completely destroyed by brutal Israeli forces since Oct. 7, 2023, killing nearly 48,200 people, the majority of whom are women and children.

His proposal was met with wide condemnations from the Palestinians, Arab countries, and many other nations across the world, including Canada, France, Germany, and the UK.

During the survey, 46% disapproved of Trump’s handling of the Israel-Hamas conflict, while the rest approved, “driven largely by Republican support.”

Regarding Trump’s goal in proposing the Gaza plan, 22% believe it is to have the US take over Gaza, 28% believe it is to begin negotiations with Middle Eastern countries, and 29% believe it is both.

The poll also found that Trump has a 53% approval rating, with 70% saying he is keeping campaign promises.
