‘No Rest Even in Death:’ Israel Holds on The Bodies of 1700 Palestinians

CROSSFIREARABIA – The Media Office of the National Campaign to Retrieve the Bodies of Martyrs stated, Wednesday, the Israeli occupation authorities are violating international law by holding on to the bodies of Palestinian prisoners. On the occasion of the National Day for the Retreival of the Bodies of Martyrs which lies on, Thursday, 27 August, 2026, the National Campaign, and based on available sources, Israel holds 1700 Palestinian martyrs. It added the national campaign at information on IDs on at least 799 bodies of martyrs Israel continues to hold on to. It further stated that the bodies of 256 martyrs are held in numbered cemeteries, 99 who died in prison but are still kept, 81 children under the age of 18 and 10 female prisoners. It said the numbers are expected to be far higher in the light of the fact there are still thousands that have disappeared with no trace in Gaza.
Israeli Army Forced to Release The Body of a 15-Year-Old it Kept For 9 Months

A Palestinian NGO stated, Wednesday, the Israeli army has decided to release the body of a Palestinian child it held since killing him more than nine months ago. The National Campaign to Retrieve the Bodies of Martyrs stated “the Israeli occupation authorities decided to release the body of martyr 15-year-old Jadallah Jihad Jumaa Jadallah, from the al-Far’a refugee camp in Tubas in the northern West Bank.” It pointed out in a press release that the decision to release the body of the 15-year-old came “after it had been held since his death on 16 November, 2025, when he was shot by the occupation army in a camp raid.” The Palestinian national campaign explained the release followed a legal petition to the Israeli Supreme Court. It added the petition was submitted last March. “The court granted the Israeli prosecution repeated extensions to submit its response, and on the final deadline, Wednesday, the prosecution finally informed the court of its intention to release the martyr’s body in the coming days. Israel continues the bodies 1,700 martyrs including 799 whose identities are known.”as reported in Anadolu.

An 18-year-old Palestinian artist turned her tent in Gaza into a gallery filled with drawings of memory and resilience. Marah Al-Zaanin, displaced from Beit Hanoun, transformed her family’s tent at a school shelter in Gaza City into a personal art gallery. Using materials such as charcoal from cooking pots and ink from discarded pens, she covered the space with black-and-white drawings reflecting displacement, daily life, fear, and memory. Al-Zaanin said painting became a refuge and a way to preserve what she had experienced.
Photo Removal in Deauville Exhibit Raises Anger Among The French

CROSSFIREARABIA – A photo by Palestinian photographer Jihad Al Sharafi in Gaza was transformed into a wide political and cultural controversy in France after it was taken, and suddenly, out of the Deauville Sports Images Festival; it was replaced by a photo of motorbikers. The ‘controversial’ photograph taken by Associated Press photographer Al Sharafi documents a football game by two youths playing in a field rehabilitated in Gaza City and surrounded by destroyed buildings from all sides caused by the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip. The removed photo was supposed to stay in the photography exhibition till 6 September as an image that documents the relations between sports and public life. The removal of the photo, thought to be made after much pressure from the Jewish lobby in the country, has created a deluge of criticism in France about the freedom of the press.
