ICC: What’s Next For Netanyahu, Gallant?

Israel is preparing for potential arrest warrants by the International Criminal Court (ICC) against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.

On Sunday, the Hague-based court reposted a notice in Hebrew, Arabic, and English explaining its procedures according to Anadolu.

“After gathering evidence and identifying a suspect, the prosecution requests ICC judges to issue: an arrest warrant, which national authorities enforce; or a summons to appear, where suspects appear voluntarily,” the notice reads.

This marks the fourth time since the beginning of June that the ICC has shared this post on its social media accounts as reported by the Turkish news agency.

On May 20, ICC Prosecutor Karim Khan announced that he had requested arrest warrants for Netanyahu and Gallant on charges of crimes against humanity and war crimes in the Gaza Strip.

No official decision from the court has been made as of yet.

While Israel has condemned and rejected the prosecutor’s request, it remains unclear how Tel Aviv will respond if arrest warrants are issued.

“Discussions are underway in Israel regarding a defense strategy for Netanyahu, Gallant, and the state of Israel in case the ICC issues arrest warrants,” the Israeli public broadcaster KAN said.

“The preparations aim to ensure that Israel is ready if such a decision is made by the ICC judges,” it added.

KAN said it remains unclear whether Israel will present a legal defense at The Hague as Tel Aviv does not recognize the court’s authority.

“Israel prefers to prepare for the worst-case scenario, which includes potential arrest orders, and is thus discussing a possible defense stance against such a decision,” it added.

Israel is not a member of the ICC, whereas Palestine was accepted as a member in 2015.

The ICC, established in 2002, is an independent international body not affiliated with the United Nations or any other international institution, and its decisions are binding.

Despite Israel’s rejection of the ICC’s jurisdiction, the court’s authority extends to the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967, allowing it to prosecute Israeli officials accused of committing crimes in these areas, Anadolu concluded.

Israel-India: Comrade-in-arms Over Gaza

India has been supplying Israel with weapons ever since the latter started its war on Gaza since 7 October, 2023.

New Delhi has been supplying Israel with artillery shells, drones and other weapons on a regular basis. It supplied Israel the advanced Hermes 900 drones that have been towering over the skies of Gaza for the last nine months.

The Hermes 900 is a drone that can be used for surveillance and aerial bombardment and have already been in active deployment in the Gaza Strip.

India joins the USA, France, Britain, Germany and Canada as an Israeli constant military supplier to keep Israel’s devastating war on Gaza going and resulted in the killing of more than 37,000 people and injured 85,000 today combined with the mass bombings of the houses, schools, infrastructure, government buildings and more.

Traditionally it has been Israel that exported hardware military equipment to India, however, Tel Aviv’s war on Gaza has turned things around. Now, it is India that is the main exporter of arms to Israel.

It continued with the 27-ton explosives shipment that India tried to send to Israel through Spanish ports last May. But today this relationship continues as India has become crucial in providing Israel with ammunition through joint deals between Israeli and Indian defence contracting companies.

The military relationship underscores the close ties that developed between India and Israeli under Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Narendra Modi who become the first Indian Prime Minister to visit Israel and 2017.

Today India and Israel are regarded as key allies, underlined by the fact that the latter has become a huge destination for Indian tourists.

However, the ex-Israeli ambassador in New Delhi Daniel Carmon put the relation between the two countries in an overall context. He said India might be supplying weapons to Israel as a gesture of gratitude for Israel assistance during the Kargil war of 1999 as reported in the Quds News Network.

“The Indians always remind us that Israel was there for them during the Kargil war. Israel was one of the few countries that stood by them and provided them with weapons. The Indians don’t forget this and might now be returning the favor,” Carmon stated.

The comments of the former diplmat came amid reports confirming India has supplied drones and artillery shells to Israel during its ongoing war on Gaza, which international bodies like the International Criminal Court and International Court of Justice have ruled as involving serious war crimes committed by Israel.

However despite the developing close relations India have always backed a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict when India established a PLO office in the country in the 1970s.

Further, in 2108 Modi made it a point of visiting Ramallah as part of a regional visit to Jordan and the Arab Gulf countries and in an effort to balance India’s foreign policy in the Middle East.

‘You Can’t Beat Hamas’ Israeli Army Spokesman Says

In what is seen as a slap in the face for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Israeli army spokesman speaks out and out of turn! “You can’t beat Hamas,” he blurts out because of so many reasons.

Promises to destroy Palestinian resistance group Hamas are “misleading,” Daniel Hagari said Wednesday as reported in Anadolu.

He said the goal of the “total destruction of Hamas” is like “throwing sand in the public’s eyes, a quote which is trending all over the social media.

His comments come as a swipe against the country’s current political leadership who are determined to eradicate Hamas despite all odds and are continuing a genocidal war against the civilians of Gaza to attempt to do it.

“Anyone promising to eradicate Hamas is misleading the public,” Hagari told the broadcaster Channel 13 as reported in the Turkish news agency.

In a frank tone, he said  “Hamas is an idea. Those who think it can be made to disappear are wrong,” he said after having been daily reporting on the Israeli war on Gaza for the last eight months.

Hagari stressed if the government “doesn’t find an alternative — it (Hamas) will remain” in Gaza.

From the start of the war on Gaza after 7 October Netanyahu has reiterated that Israel’s key objective is to destroy Hamas and has not listened to anyone else who expressed scepticism about meeting this goal and which they say is not feasible.

Meanwhile Israeli society is breaking to pieces. The 120 or so hostages have not been released, the Israeli army is in a bad situation because of the real number of deaths, injured and those in need of psychological help, the economy is in tatters and many Israelis are leaving the country.

Hagari discussed the army’s announcement on June 8 about the release of four captives in a military operation in the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza. “It is not possible to release all hostages through military operations,” he acknowledged as reported by Anadolu.

More that 37,000 has been killed in Gaza through the Israeli bombings with over 85,000 being injured.

Voices From Gaza: Killing Never Stops

In Gaza the killing never stops, the Israeli war machine continues blasting the Strip. While on the first day of Eid, the Israeli army hinted there would be a respite from military strikes for the duration of the Muslim holidays, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu immediately overturned the decision.

And so the horrors of war continued in their momentum with limbs and torsos and human remains on the silver screen as pointed out by James Elder of UNICEF in Gaza among the many other videoclips.

Starvation continues to haunt north Gaza once again. Here, Israel has continued to turn the screws on the 700,000 people still in the north by banning aid trucks to feed the hungry and disparate.

Forced starvation which Israel has long imposed on the Gaza Strip since 7 October 2023, is regarded as a form of genocide.
And death follows starvation with babies and children dying by the day because of malnutrition and dehydration.

Netanyahu says NO

Meanwhile Netanyahu, rejects a peace deal with Hamas going against a new poll by the Jewish People Policy Institute which shows that around 60% of Israelis demand that Netanyahu to accept a captives-for-ceasefire deal presented by US President Joe Biden.
