Where Are The Missing Kids of Gaza?

The Israeli war on Gaza has been particularly brutal on children. Because of the tempo of destruction many of the children have either been killed or separated from their families. How to deal with these children has been an awesome operation especially when bombs and missiles are raining down on the enclave non-stop.

One blogger writes that the media has run countless headlines on Israel hostages for months. He asks where is the same energy for the 20,000 missing Palestinian children?

Another writes it’s been 24 hours since Save the Children reported that over 20,000 children are missing in Gaza and “I can’t find news about it in any major western outlet.”

Assal Rad says that these children which lie under the rubble, maimed beyond recognition in mass graves, detained and/or separated from their families are  apparently not “newsworthy.”

The New Arab ran a major feature on the missing children of Gaza, stating the British aid Group found up to 21,000 children are estimated to be missing in Gaza, with at least 17,000 of them thought to be unaccompanied or separated from their parents and some 4,000 likely trapped beneath the rubble of their homes, schools, and hospitals.

The website added an undefined number of children’s bodies were found in mass graves, showing signs of summary executions, torture and even being buried alive. Many have been harmed beyond recognition as a result of Israel’s use of explosive weapons.

Another blogger the scale of violence against children in Gaza is horrifying stating that the 20,000 is just the tip of the iceburg because over 14,000 have been killed by the constant Israeli bombardment since 7 October, 2023.

Despite the lack of attention from western reporting, the report has managed to be highlighted on social media and which points to the urgency of finding the parents of these children in the context of war and bombardment.

“Every day we find more unaccompanied children and every day it is harder to support them. We work through partners to identify separated and unaccompanied children and trace their families, but there are no safe facilities for them – there is no safe place in Gaza, said a Save the Children specialist.

“Besides, reuniting them with family members is difficult when ongoing hostilities restrict our access to communities, and constantly force families to move.”

The report states these missing children and who are still alive, are at a grave risk and must be found to be protected.

Jeremy Stoner of Save The Children said: Gaza has become a graveyard for children, with thousands of others missing, their fates unknown. There must be an independent investigation and those responsible must be held accountable. We desperately need a ceasefire to find and support the missing children who have survived, and to prevent more families from being destroyed.”

Despite 200 Missiles Israel Sees ‘No Escalation’

The north of occupied Palestine is in a flare up with the Israeli army and Hezbollah in battle and intense exchange of fire. The war drums are beating on the Israel-Lebanese border once again.

The latest skirmishes are the result of the assassination of military commander Mohammad Naimah Nasser according to Hezbollah source speaking to Al Jazeera.

It’s reported that Israeli soldiers have been injured following a double attack by Hezbollah involving drones and rockets launched in northern Israel and which created multiple fires including blazes in the occupied Golan Heights.

The fires were the result of an unprecedented barrage of drones and rockets launched from southern Lebanon that struck the Galilee and the Golan Heights with sirens going off non-stop for 40 minutes.

Reports also show over 100 rockets were fired towards the Israeli-occupied territories within the span of few minutes with explosions heard after a major drone attack with 25 drones falling on Israeli settlements.

Officials in the Israeli army are still playing the fire incidents down saying there is “no indication of a major escalation” according to Israel’s Channel 12 despite the killing of one Israeli soldier and the wounding of others in the Golan Heights.

There are reported fires in Nahariya in northern Israel with Hezbollah missiles targeting the 91st division in the Israeli Ilayit headquarters. It is reported that trains have stopped running between Haifa and Nahariya due to the dangerous security situation.

Rockets also landed in a commercial center in Accre with reports of a direct hit after sirens went off in the town as well as the Haifa Bay.

Hezbollah latter stated that it fired more that 200 missiles of various types on the Galilee and the occupied Golan Heights and these were as a direct result of the Israeli aggression on Gaza.

The rockets and fires created a wave of evacuations from northern Israel through army helicopters. There was an onslaught on the Yarden Barracks and Biet Hamqass in which a a soldier was killed and three others wounded as a result of a direct hit on a military vehicle.

Israeli settlers are reported to be vey angry with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ““because he left us to our fate and he is the most failed prime minister in the history of Israel.”

“It was the rainiest day [Thursday]. Dozens of fires broke out in thousands of acres of forests and open areas. There are forests that were completely burned and it will take 10 to 15 years to restore them.” Director of the Upper Galilee and Golan region regarding the fires that broke out Thursday in the north due to launch rockets from Lebanon:

UN: Nine Out of 10 in Gaza Displaced

At lease nine out of 10 people in the Gaza Strip are now displaced and have no homes and forced to move around the enclave multiple times.

“We are again at the crossroads where the UN and its partners has to reset their operations,” Andrea De Domenico, head of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in the occupied Palestinian Territory, said at a virtual news conference as reported in Anadolu.

De Domenico noted Israel’s recent evacuation order in Khan Younis has affected a third of the enclave, further exacerbating the displacement crisis.

“…We estimated that nine of every 10 people in the Gaza Strip have been internally displaced at least once, if not up to 10 times, unfortunately, since October,” he reported.

“People in the last nine months have been moved around like pawns in a board game, forced from one location to the next location.”

De Domenico said residents have to rebuild extremely difficult living conditions each time, leading to more suffering and a greater need for humanitarian aid.

Stressing that the UN will continue to stay in the region, he highlighted that aid distribution is challenging every day.

Citing the Palestinian Authority’s Bureau of Statistics, De Domenico said Gaza’s population is 2.3 million and he estimated that 110,000 have left Gaza, and 37,000 have been killed.

Meanwhile the UN lowered its population estimates of Gaza from roughly 2.3 million people to about 2.1 million, following thousands of deaths and exodus of Palestinians.

He said that 110,000 people have fled Gaza and crossed into Egypt since October, according to the border authority, and close to 38,000 Palestinians have been killed in Israel’s war.

Over 87,000 Palestinians are wounded, while another 10,000 are estimated to be buried under the debris of bombed homes according to TRT.

Itzhak Brik  Says Netanyahu is Lying on Gaza

Reserve Israeli general Itzhak Brik is a tireless critic of the government of Benjamin Netanyahu. He says “what is happening in Gaza is a big disgrace. We are losing a lot, and [Netanyahu] throws dust in the eyes,” the Quds News Network quotes him saying.

“The IDF realizes that Hamas cannot be defeated and soldiers are being sent to their deaths. Herzi Helevi wants to stay in his position until the end of his term; he is deceptive,” he adds.

“…officers, brigade commanders, and soldiers talk to me daily from the field, informing me of what is happening every minute. Yesterday, an officer spoke to me and said, ‘Brik, keep going strong with what you are doing.’ He is in Rafah now and told me that I am truthful in every word I say,” Brik told Israel’s Channel 7.

In reference to statements made by government about the war he said “they deceive the public and don’t tell the truth…we are not winning.  We do not confront Hamas, they don’t even stand in front of us.

All the statements that the army killed 100 here, and 200 there are incorrect. The [Hamas] fighters are underground; they come out, launch rockets and return. They are blowing up houses and using explosives against us and we are being killed,” the retired General said.

“There is no such closure of the tunnels that reach Sinai. These tunnels which they call Hames’s oxygen tubes have been used to transport weapons and combat equipment and the army claims to have controlled the Philadelphi Route and closed the tunnels is not true.

To close these tunnels, a canal 9km long and 50 meters deep must be dug because these tunnels are located 50 meters underground and all weapons and equipment come through them. The army does not intend to dig a canal 9km long and 50 meters deep,” he says.

Are they deceiving us? The army chief of staff said that the army is close to victory in Rafah, the Channel 7 interviewer interjects.

“They are clearly deceiving the public and lying to them,” Brik says.
